MANILA -- CNN Philippines on Monday announced it would discontinue operations this week, ending nearly a decade of delivering English-language news to one of Asia's most vibrant democracies.

The channel will stop broadcasting on Wednesday because of mounting financial losses. Nine Media Corp., the broadcaster's parent company, suffered losses of 5 billion pesos ($88.5 million) since it began broadcasting in March 2015, local media reported.
