Myanmar's military is introducing mandatory conscription for the general public. With pro-democracy groups and ethnic minority forces gaining ground in armed clashes, the military wants to replenish its troops and rebuild the overall organization.

Unrest has spread among the nation's citizens, who have endured life under the regime's heavy-handed rule since the takeover three years ago. The military should not implement this outrageous policy that would force the people of Myanmar to fight each other.
