BANGKOK -- The U.S. on Thursday imposed fresh sanctions on entities and individuals it said are providing support to the military regime in Myanmar, which seized power three years ago.

The sanctions target Shwe Byain Phyu Group (SBPG), a company that imports and distributes petroleum for Myanma Economic Holdings (MEHL), as well as Myanma Five Star Line, a shipping company owned by MEHL. MEHL is a holding company established by the military as a source of funding and sanctioned by the U.S. since 2021.
